Early in my career, I remember wondering if I could even write code since I didn’t have a computer science degree.
It turns out I could.
Self-taught programmers are usually good because they’ve learned to code from a genuine desire to automate a need they had.
It’s one thing to learn to program by following an example in a book or course.
It’s a lot more motivating to learn when the task is not some contrived example project, but a real-world thing that will make your life better.
And can you guess what the most motivating project is?
One that magically converts “non-developers” into people who can write code?
Just one glance at the equity curve of a decent trading strategy can turn someone who isn’t a developer into someone who can get it done.
I’ve seen this many times.
Equity curves have a way of being very motivating.
