Remember when you were a kid and you were scared of the dark?
I bet there was a phase when anytime your mom put you to bed and turned out the lights, you got scared.
But at some point, you learned that the dark wasn’t as scary as you thought.
It’s not that there are no dangers when it’s dark – you’re a lot more likely to fall down the stairs in the dark than when it’s light.
But you learned to live your life without a terrifying fear of darkness.
Many traders have the same irrational fear of curve fitting.
They’re scared to make any improvement to their trading strategy because it “could be curve fitting.”
You should consider curve fitting when optimizing your strategy, but with the right process, it should not be crippling you with fear.
Think of one way you could improve your trading strategy.
How can you revisit it with fresh eyes, knowing that most traders are too scared of the dark curve fitting?
